I absolutely loved working at Bizarre; I started as the features editor, then became deputy editor. The magazine was full-on, the staff were fuller-onner. We ran shocking pictures, scarcely-believable stories about extreme fetishes, weird crimes, interviews with cult personalities and features that made us laugh until we had snot running down our faces. We also ran extremely sensitive and thoughtful features that echoed our readers’ concerns, about self-harm, suicide, and bullying.
My favourite story? An interview with a group of Americans who went into the desert every year and spent their holidays pretending to be on the moon. My least favourite task? Opening the post from the readers; they’d send in gruesome pictures, mysterious substances and body parts.
